In technology, too, batteries are regularly used, which often end up as waste after use. All of this fuels the waste problem and has serious environmental consequences. Sustainability in waste management during events has become a growing concern in recent years. Events often generate large amounts of waste and it is necessary to tackle these waste streams in a sustainable way. Therefore, the municipality of Amsterdam only grants permits to events where energy, water, waste and transport are handled sustainably. This means that all events in Amsterdam must meet strict sustainability requirements. To ensure that we meet these requirements, we have developed a clear vision on waste management for all events at Theater Amsterdam.

Our vision on waste management during events

At Theater Amsterdam, we have a clear vision on waste management during events. We are determined to minimize the impact of waste and strive for a sustainable approach. These are some of the measures we have taken:

Reusable glassware, cutlery and crockery

We have said goodbye to disposable materials and disposables. We exclusively use high-quality glassware, cutlery and contemporary crockery during every event. Through this adjustment, we significantly reduce the amount of disposable waste.

Biodegradable materials

The items that still serve as disposables, such as napkins and chip bags, are always biodegradable. In this way, we minimize the negative impact on the environment.

Sustainable technical choices

In the technical aspects of our events, we use rechargeable batteries and energy-efficient LED lamps. This not only reduces waste, but also energy consumption.

Recycling

We recycle red carpets, masking cloths and other materials to give them a new application at other events. In this way, we extend the lifespan of materials and reduce waste.

Advisory role

We share our expertise and advise clients on making sustainable choices in the area of waste management during their events. Only together can we bring about positive change.

Waste separation

We strongly believe in waste separation as an effective way to tackle the waste problem. We have had special waste oil drums made with clear signage that makes it easy for guests to separate waste. By separating waste correctly, we can recycle more materials and reduce the negative impact on the environment.

Food & beverage waste management

One of the major sources of waste during events is food waste. At Theater Amsterdam, we have tackled this by keeping the production kitchen in-house with a permanent team of top chefs. They ensure that food surpluses are used to prepare new dishes, making food waste a thing of the past.

In addition, we offer guests the opportunity to take a Foodiebag with them at the end of an event, so they can take the dishes home and in that way contribute to reducing food waste.
